| Youth Bicycle Education in Philadelphia!
Neighborhood Bike Works is a nonprofit educational organization in Philadelphia that seeks to increase opportunities for urban youth through bicycling, and which promotes cycling as an environmentally-friendly means of transportation.
It started in 1996 as Youth Cycle & Recycle, a program of The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. We organized as a separate non-profit in July 1999, opened the Haddington Neighborhood Shop in 2001, and opened the North Philly/Temple Shop in 2009. Today, we hold classes at three permanent shops, satellite locations in Chester and Norristown, PA, and in several public schools and community centers. Help NBW stay at St Mary's!!
Neighborhood Bike Works is appealing a recent denial of a Certificate of Occupancy by Licenses and Inspections for our headquarters location in the basement of St Mary’s Parish Hall, 3916 Locust Walk on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
While we are hopeful that the appeal will be granted given the community support that we already enjoy, having the local cycling community sign a petition asking for a variance would also be very helpful.
