Neighborhood Bike Works provides educational, recreational, and career-building opportunities for urban youth in underserved neighborhoods in greater Philadelphia through bicycling; it also promotes cycling as a healthy, affordable, environment-friendly form of transportation.
Since 1999, Neighborhood Bike Works has introduced over 4,500 young Philadelphians to the joys and freedom of cycling in the city. Our free or low-cost youth programs, including Earn-a-Bike, Group Rides, and summer camps, reach over 500 youth each year. We also offer programs for adults, and are currently offering programming at two permanent sites — in West and North Philadelphia, and at several off-site locations around the city. We operate a retail bike shop in North Philadelphia that raises funds to support our programs, and offers a training ground for young mechanics.
