Volunteering
Neighborhood Bike Works can’t run without volunteers and interns. If you have a skill, chances are we can use it. Please contact volunteers AT neighborhoodbikeworks DOT org to learn more about volunteering at NBW. To read about specific opportunities, including where we need volunteers right now, please visit our “Help Volunteer” section.
Adult Classes
Neighborhood Bike Works offers adult classes on Basic Bike Repair. This class usually meets for four Monday evenings. Tuition is $60 for the series (free to active volunteers). Lessons typically include parts of the bike and bike fit, care and feeding of your brakes and shifting, and an introduction to overhauling bearings. Other topics may be included at the students’ and instructor’s discretion.
From time to time, we also offer limited-enrollment Basic Bike Repair classes. Past examples include women-only, as well as members-only for local cycling organizations. Please watch our calender for women’s classes, or email repairclass AT neighborhoodbikeworks DOT org to let us know you’re interested. If your club would like to sponsor a members’-only class, please write andy AT neighborhoodbikeworks DOT org
Once or twice a year, we also teach Urban Survival Biking. Instructors are certified by the League of American Bicyclists; class includes on-bike instruction, equipment choices, keeping your bike ready to ride, traffic laws and more.
To learn more, or to enroll in a current class, please email repairclass AT neighborhoodbikeworks DOT org.

What Bike Church is
The Divine Bike Church is a chance for folks over 18 to drop in take advantage of some of same great resources we offer through our youth programs. We also sell some surplus bikes and parts not needed for our youth programs.
Bike Church is entirely volunteer-staffed. Some volunteers are professional mechanics in real life, but most are enthusiasts. Not all of our staff are able to solve every bike problem, but we’ll do our best.
There are two main purposes to Bike Church. The first is to help you learn more about your bicycle, and to try to provide a space where you can keep your bike in good condition. The second is to generate support for our Youth Programs. Every penny you spend or donate goes right back to our Earn a Bike students and graduates. Every time you help out by sweeping the floor or sorting parts, you make the shop a better place for these youth to work and learn. Please keep this in mind when you’re using our shop.
To learn how to become a Bike Church Volunteer, or to learn about Bike Church volunteers’ meetings and events, please drop in during open hours or email dcb AT neighborhoodbikeworks DOT org.
What Bike Church is not
Bike Church is not a “real” bike shop. We will not fix you bicycle for you. We cannot promise that we’ll have the parts you need in stock. Our resources are limited; and so we can’t even promise that you’ll be able to get in the door on any given night — especially if you arrive much more than a half hour after opening. We cannot buy your bicycle, or let you trade it in for an equal value of parts or services.
