Remember all those months back, when you or a friend of yours wanted to donate a bike or a bike part to NBW South Philly and you got told “Oh, sorry, we don’t have a place to put it”. Well, now we do, at 508 S. 5th Street, one block north of South , left hand side.
We have a nice sized basement for us to store your donated items that we can then redistribute back into the Philly bike community. So, drop us a line and we’ll find a nice safe home for that old bike that’s taking up your space.
thanks,
NBW SouthPhilly
PS We also have our nifty Outlaw Print Co tshirts now for sale at the shop, so come by and get them while their hot.

NBW recently received an awesome donation of office furniture from the National Board of Medical Examiners. Thanks so much to Jaime and Jesse, dedicated NBW volunteers, for making this possible!
The office is almost entirely set up, but we still need a volunteer or two with light construction skills to help install shelves. Please contact Timothy at 215-386-0316 or timothy@neighborhoodbikeworks.org

You are invited to participate in the 8th Annual Bike Part Art Show
The Bike Part Art Show is an art exhibition and silent auction that benefits our youth cycling programs. This year, the show will be held at Highwire Gallery with the auction on Friday, December 3rd. The auction doubles as a celebration of art and cycling, including a raffle, live music, and plenty of local food and drink. The works will remain on display in the gallery for the entirety of the month.
You can get involved with the show by:
- donating an original work of art to be auctioned at the show
- volunteering
- sponsoring the show
How to donate art:
All artwork submitted to the show should be made in the spirit of bicycling, make use of bicycle parts or have a bicycle theme. You are invited to visit our shop and raid our inventory of bicycle parts to use as a medium for your work. Part raids will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning June 22nd from 6:30pm – 9:00pm and will continue for the rest of the summer. The deadline for submission of works is the first week in November.
How to volunteer:
Volunteers are a big part of the show and can help in many ways including: installation and deinstallation of the show, picking up food and drink, working the auction table, the craft boutique and the raffle, bartending, and greeting people at the door.
How to sponsor the show:
Sponsors can support the show with a monetary donation, with a donation of food and/or beverages for the event or by donating an item for the art show raffle. NBW accepts donations from individuals and businesses with all proceeds going toward our youth programs.
Send an email to artshow@neighborhoodbikeworks.org or call our shop at (215) 386-0316 if you’d like to donate a work to the show, volunteer, become a sponsor, or if you have any questions about the 2010 Bike Part Art Show.

Dear Friends,
After 27 years in Philadelphia and over ten years at Neighborhood Bike Works I will be leaving town in September. Moira (my wife, who many of you know) has accepted a tenure track position at Bellarmaine University in Louisville, KY. I am going to miss Neighborhood Bike Works and the city that really has loved me back terribly, but I am excited to be taking on the job of executive director of Bicycling for Louisville. There’s more to say, some of which I could presently articulate, and some of which I have yet to feel and know, but right now I’m looking forward to my best three months ever in Philly. Stay tuned for info on our going away party.
Best to everyone,
Andy
Neighborhood Bike Works seeks Executive Director
Neighborhood Bike Works is a youth development program in Philadelphia that provides opportunities through bicycling. Our primary program, Earn-a-Bike classes, teaches bike maintenance, repair, and safe, effective, riding skills. We also offer a summer day camp, educational programs, and advanced programs for earn-a-bike graduates and programs for adults. We also overhaul and sell bikes. Programs are held at several sites in Philadelphia and nearby.
We seek a leader who is committed to youth development and bicycling and who is experienced in program management. The ED is responsible for overseeing programs and staff, maintaining financial and program records, fundraising (including grant-writing and contracting), cooperating with program partners, and representing NBW to the public. We hope to fill the position by August and no later than September 2010.
Applicants should send resume and letter outlining qualifications to employment@neighborhoodbikeworks.org.
