As many of you are aware, there has been a concerted effort to address the incidents of violence against cyclists along the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT), particularly in Norristown. Cyclists have enlisted Norristown and Montgomery County officials to make the trail a safer place. In addition, a group of cyclists organized to identify ways to attempt to change the relationship between cyclists and the Norristown community and make a positive impact on Norristown youth. They quickly focused on how we could create bicycling opportunities for youth in Norristown.
NBW has the infrastructure and experience in place to quickly set up a program in Norristown. What we need two things: a permanent place to hold the program and $5,000 for startup. The great news is a site, the Elmwood Park Band Shell, has been made available to us at no charge! The Elmwood Park Band Shell is a perfect location, within one mile of the (SRT), and a short ride to the Norristown Farm Park trail.
When we started raising funds, we said we were hopeful that there are 500 cyclists who will be willing to chip in $10.00. Well, we had a terrific response! Many gave $10.00 and many gave far more than that. We have almost met our goal, but we still need to raise about $750 to make our dream a reality.
