MORE INFORMATION
Neighborhood Bike Works provides educational, recreational, and career-building opportunities for urban youth in underserved neighborhoods in greater Philadelphia through bicycling; it also promotes cycling as a healthy, affordable, environment-friendly form of transportation.
Since 1999, Neighborhood Bike Works has introduced over 4,500 young Philadelphians to the joys and freedom of cycling in the city. Our free or low-cost youth programs, including Earn-a-Bike, Group Rides, and summer camps, reach over 600 youth each year. We also offer programs for adults, and are currently offering programming at three permanent sites - in West, North, and South Philadelphia, and at several off-site locations around the city. We operate a retail bike shop in North Philadelphia that raises funds to support our programs, and offers a training ground for young mechanics.
What's Up
The NBW Youth Race Team is preparing for another great race season with Cadence Cycling Foundation! This year, youth will have the option of joining the team for either or both of the spring and summer sessions. Practice will be at the 40th Street Shop on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Spring session starts April 1, 2013 and we are currently accepting applications! Click the link to download an application.

Youth at NBW have already started working hard on conceptualizing, designing, and creating another amazing kinetic sculpture for The Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby in May. The class is open to all graduates who have the interest in learning specific skills such as 3D design, welding, physics, and of course building. Classes meet every Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at 40th Street.

This spring, NBW is excited to introduce a NEW after school program: the Ride Club! Youth, ages 8-18, can sign up for this four week session offered at both our North Philly and 40th Street shops. The focus is all about getting youth out and about, exploring this wonderful city, and learning some of the basics of on the road bike repair. Click the link for more details. Hope to see you RIDE with us!

WE NEED YOUR OLD BIKES! As the weather warms up and you tackle cleaning out your basement or garage, consider donating any unwanted cycling equipment to Neighborhood Bike Works. We depend on in-kind donations from individuals to serve our youth and adult cycling communities. As the ground thaws, we know that our shops will become busier and want to offer patrons and youth a wide array of bikes, and bike parts.
