NBW recently received an awesome donation of office furniture from the National Board of Medical Examiners. Thanks so much to Jaime and Jesse, dedicated NBW volunteers, for making this possible!
The office is almost entirely set up, but we still need a volunteer or two with light construction skills to help install shelves. Please contact Timothy at 215-386-0316 or timothy@neighborhoodbikeworks.org
if you’re interested in helping out.
You are invited to participate in the 8th Annual Bike Part Art Show
The Bike Part Art Show is an art exhibition and silent auction that benefits our youth cycling programs. This year, the show will be held at Highwire Gallery with the auction on Friday, December 3rd. The auction doubles as a celebration of art and cycling, including a raffle, live music, and plenty of local food and drink. The works will remain on display in the gallery for the entirety of the month.
You can get involved with the show by:
- donating an original work of art to be auctioned at the show
- volunteering
- sponsoring the show
How to donate art:
All artwork submitted to the show should be made in the spirit of bicycling, make use of bicycle parts or have a bicycle theme. You are invited to visit our shop and raid our inventory of bicycle parts to use as a medium for your work. Part raids will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning June 22nd from 6:30pm – 9:00pm and will continue for the rest of the summer. The deadline for submission of works is the first week in November.
How to volunteer:
Volunteers are a big part of the show and can help in many ways including: installation and deinstallation of the show, picking up food and drink, working the auction table, the craft boutique and the raffle, bartending, and greeting people at the door.
How to sponsor the show:
Sponsors can support the show with a monetary donation, with a donation of food and/or beverages for the event or by donating an item for the art show raffle. NBW accepts donations from individuals and businesses with all proceeds going toward our youth programs.
Send an email to artshow@neighborhoodbikeworks.org or call our shop at (215) 386-0316 if you’d like to donate a work to the show, volunteer, become a sponsor, or if you have any questions about the 2010 Bike Part Art Show.
It’s hot, hot summer in Philly again, and we are looking for a couple air conditioner donations for our 40th st and Haddington shops! This is really important to keep our shops cool — and keep kids in our Summer Camp and summer classes comfortable and happy!
If you have an air conditioner you don’t need anymore, or if you know of someone who has one, please contact Timothy at 215-386-0316 or timothy [at] neighborhoodbikeworks.org.
If you don’t have an air conditioner but still want to donate, remember that we always need bicycles, bike parts, snacks for kids’ classes and office supplies!
It’s that time again! The Neighborhood Bike Works summer camp is starting this July and needs volunteers.
What do summer camp volunteers do?
In the morning, we take the kids on a ride to various locations around the city. Field trips include rides to Spriral Q Puppet Factory, The Urban Nutrition Initiative, Bartram’s Gardens, The Mill Creek Urban Farm, and The Sprinkler Park. Volunteers help to supervise these rides. In the afternoon, the kids return to the shop for lunch and a bicycle lesson. During the lesson, volunteers make sure that the kids are paying attention and help them with any difficulties that may arise. Working with the summer camp is a great opportunity to learn the basics of bicycle repair and to explore the city.
We are also seeking individuals who have a special skill to share with the campers. Do you have an awesome, kid-friendly recipe to share? Do you make awesome art? Do you ride bikes professionally? Do you have cool stories to share about biking? If you do something awesome that kids think is awesome too, we’d love for you to volunteer for a day and share your expertise with the campers.

Two of our stellar volunteers from last summer.
Camp Hours: 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.
Dates:
Session I: July 5 - 16
Session II: July 19 - 30
Session III: August 2 - 13
Session IV: August 16 - 27
If you’re interested in volunteering with the summer camp, please send an email to volunteers@neighborhoodbikeworks.org and include which session you’d like to work with and your contact information. We will be holding a summer camp orientation for any interested volunteers!
We will also have a summer camp through our North Philadelphia shop. Contact Cat Bergeron for more information by sending an email to cat@neighborhoodbikeworks.org.
We look forward to hearing from you!
This Saturday is the annual Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby. Once again, Neighborhood Bike Works will be participating in the event. We will have groups of kids riding to the event from the 40th street, Haddington and N. Philly shops. We will also be offering bike parking at the event. We need volunteers to help supervise these rides and help out with bike parking for the event. These are great opportunities to help out NBW, support our riders and see the derby!
If you’d like to volunteer, send an email to volunteers@neighborhoodbikeworks.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
NBW is looking for a volunteer who can take care of a few light construction jobs in the office. If you could lend a hand, contact us at volunteers@neighborhoodbikeworks.org or at 215-386-0316.
Neighborhood Bike Works will be providing bicycle parking at the Pennsylvania Convention Center for attendees of the 1st Annual Philadelphia Cycling, Health & Fitness Show on the weekend of Friday, June 4th. While our youth members typically provide the manpower for valet bike parking, NBW is in need of adult volunteers to help on Friday the 4th as the youth will still be in school.
To lend out a helping hand and support Neighborhood Bike Works, please contact Sergio at sergio@neighborhoodbikeworks.org.
NBW needs volunteers to promote the programs at the Endurance Sports Expo this weekend. This is a fun exhibition that I dare say a lot of our volunteers will be attending anyway. If the weather is bad it’s a good thing to do if you’re not willing to ride in the rain!
There will be dozens of bike and bike part manufacturers. To find out more about the event, check out the link below.

We need people to table for various shifts during this time. Please contact Norman Lazarus at normanlazarus@yahoo.com with the times you are available.
NBW is always in need of your generous donations — we can always use bicycles, bike parts and cycling gear, as well as computer hardware, office supplies and snacks for kids’ classes. Right now, we’re particularly in need of digital cameras - of any age or quality, as long they work! We’re also looking for a laptop computer and manila folders. Please get in touch with Timothy if you can offer any of the above! Email timothy@neighborhoodbikeworks.org or give us a call at 215-386-0316. THANKS!
