wheelbuilding

Learn how to build your dream wheel! You can bring your own rims and hubs, or order new parts through us from a wide range of sizes, styles and prices. Learn the basic theory of wheel-building, including how to measure components, calculate correct spoke length, proper spoke lacing, as well as truing and tensioning wheels. Mild to intermediate repair experience is suggested, but not required! The fee for the class is $75 plus the cost of any new parts you may order.

The class will meet Sunday early afternoon from 12:00-3:00pm on August 2, August 9, August 16, and August 23 (with an optional extra class on August 30th) in our shop at 3916 Locust Walk.

To register early or for any questions, call 215-386-0316 or email yowei@neighborhoodbikeworks.org. The class is limited to 15 students, so register soon before space runs out!

Summer Camp Donation Wish List

By Yowei, June 24, 2009 2:43 pm

Before Summer Camp starts on July 6, we still need a couple things…

1) A large, working air conditioner –10,000 BTUs or bigger.

2) A volunteer to weld a railing onto the stairs into the basement. Preferably someone with prior welding experience!

3) Blank T-shirts — all colors, sizes and styles! We’ll silkscreen these with the NBW T-shirt design. We can even use other solid color clothing items, too.

And once Summer Camp starts, we’d love some fresh vegetables from your gardens (or the store) that can be eaten as snacks for Summer Camp. Carrots, cucumbers, radishes, beets, celery, peppers and greens are all welcome!

If you can help us out with any of the above items, please contact yowei@neighborhoodbikeworks.org.

Volunteer Trucker Needed!

By Yowei, June 19, 2009 1:26 pm
Great news! Right now there are two pickup truck loads of wheels and miscellaneous bike parts waiting to be retrieved from Fuji. As you know, Neighborhood Bike Works depends on donations to support our youth programs. We just need a volunteer with a truck to pick up these donations any time between 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM on a weekday.

If you have a truck and are interested in helping out or know someone who is, please contact Yowei at yowei@neighborhoodbikeworks.org.
